Confessions of a Vampire

Dear Jayne,

Finding an appropriate way to say thank you for all you’ve been doing to look after mom and dad eludes me. I mean, saying thank you, thank you, thank you, doesn’t come close to expressing the way I really feel about how incredibly helpful you have been throughout this entire ordeal. And if you don’t already know, mom and dad think of you as though you’re their second daughter, they love and appreciate you so much… it’s really hard to put into words what you mean to us all. THANK YOU!!!

And, thank you for being so selfless and for giving so much especially in light of the dangerous turn the current situation has taken. I want you to know that I’m aware of how little time you have with everything you have going on in your life, school, work, etc… Worse, as you give and give of yourself, I’ve been a little… no, a lot… self involved in recent months. And I’m sorry. I’m working hard on that and this current situation has woken me up to that fact. I have a completely different outlook of what’s important and I want you to know, you are important! You are family, you are my best friend, you are awesome and I love you!

One regret I have in my new way of life is not being there as much as I want to… And I really miss attending your fencing and samurai sword fighting competitions. You are so good and I wish I could be there to support you like I use to do. I do keep track of your events and I clip all the articles I can get and I save them. I enjoy sharing your success with my new friends and Eric. They think you’re pretty amazing and so do I.

You know, I’ve been hyper focused on my transformation and then the humanization training process to the exclusion of everything else. It seemed to me to be the most important thing in my life and having gotten through that, I was planning to spend more time with you and mom and dad and I was hoping to balanced life between my human family, Eric, and my new vampire family but… that’s all up in the air. And now, I need your help even more than ever before.

Please understand that I really hate to do this, I hate to drop all this on you and my parents, but I don’t really have any options, and, I don’t have any time either because the sun will be coming up soon. Before I lay it on you, you should know that I wrote a letter and left it with mom so I won’t repeat any of that here. Please bare with me, it’s going to take some explanation… OK, here it goes…

Earlier, Eric ran off after a vampire named Sarah. Sarah is Rachel’s roommate and they both work at the lab. They’re lab technicians and they work on the vampire virus research being conducted on my blood. Their work is both extremely important and highly confidential and it appears now that Sarah has some involvement in the disappearance of the missing blood sample. So far we haven’t heard back from Eric, we’re all hoping that he’ll be waiting for us at the house when we return there shortly. After Eric left, Rachel and I went to her house but we didn’t get very far in our investigation before we ran out of time.

Now for the tough part… I know what I’m about to ask of you is without a doubt the most dangerous thing I could ask. And you need to know, that it’s with great hesitation that I do, ask. You are my best friend and I love you and I couldn’t bare for any harm to come to you. The fact is, I know I can trust and count on you without question and in large part it’s this unconditional trust that I have in you that causes me to turn to you in this moment of great need. And if any human can help me with this, you are that person.

Your skills and your smarts put you in a class of your own and your acute sense of observation makes you the only person I know who can help. When we were kids and you would say to me, “we shouldn’t be here” or “ Let’s go” , you were alway right! You always knew somehow when something bad was going to happen, and you know when things aren’t quite right. You saved us from getting in trouble more times than I can count and your quick wit makes you very special. Additionally, you’re incredibly skilled with your sword handling not to mention your other weapons and you may need to draw on that skill.

To get Zachary and his accomplices is not going to be easy. And I need a human to help me, but not just any human, I need your help. Please know, if I thought I could do this without exposing you to this ugliness and danger, I would. I fear, if we don’t do this together, you will get exposed to the evil anyway and if we’re not successful, it will get really bad for us all. So what I’m saying is, while I’m worried about getting you involved in this dangerous situation, I am much more afraid of what will happen if I don’t ask you for your help. If Zachary has his way, he’ll cause great pain to the people of Sarasota and beyond, great pain for both human and vampire alike.

You, my friend, my sister, Jayne, need to understand that if you agree to help me you will be in great danger. If our plan becomes known to Zachary, it will certainly mean… well there’s no need to explain further.

I have to go, but before I do, I have to share this with you. The girl I saw Zachary with at the restaurant is missing. She was reported missing today and we’re certain that he’s involved. We have got to stop him before he releases his evil wrath upon the residents of Sarasota. We know he wont hesitate to take human life and we also believe that he has Dr Thomas under his control, so time is critical in order to protect the work the Dr has accomplished at the lab.

This leads me to your first task if you choose to except. In order to understand more fully Sarah’s involvement in all of this we need you to search her house. Rachel has extended her permission for you to enter her home to see what you can find. I need you to dig around to see if you can find anything that looks like Sarah has connections to Zachary or the Darkness.

While I was hoping to do this under different and happier circumstances, tonight if you’re willing, I’ll bring you back here so you can meet everyone. I know you have been waiting a long time and I’m sorry not to have invite you earlier. Back then, it seems so long ago now, I wanted to make sure you would be safe from me, now things have changed so drastically. Now I’m worried about you and my folks, I fear for your safety and this is our only hope. To get Zachary before he…

Here’s the plan, tonight I’ll pick you up at mom’s when I drop Eric off to watch the house. You’ll meet him first and then we’ll head back to the house and get to work. Rachel is also eager to meet you and now she’s eager to get back to work at the lab as well. Rachel and I have been working closely together to sort out Sarah’s connection and while the Senator has kept the origin of the blood sample confidential from lab employees, I felt that after all Rachel has gone through to help us and the importance of continuing her research, she deserved to know the sample came from me. I know we can trust her, I can sense her true intentions and she is 100% invested in our work. Now that she knows, she thinks the best medicine for her is to get back to working on the remaining sample to find out all she can about it. Rachel feels betrayed by Sarah and she’s determined not to let the efforts of the darkness destroy our efforts to coexist with humans in a positive and productive manner. Rachel said, “Dr Thomas was willing to sacrifice himself for the movement, the least I can do is stop feeling sorry for myself and get back to work.” She reminds me of you in some ways, she has a silent strength and tenacity…
